Spring into Fresh Fashion

When first approached to take part in this event, I was immediately excited to participate. Spring fashion is always full of a wide variety of fun colors and styles. But because pastels are not always my first colors of choice, I decided to stick with shades of blue, white, and khaki, as they portray the “fresh” theme of this event. I also wanted to show how you can use the same color scheme for several different looks while still maintaining the same theme.
Hoorenbeek’s new mesh line includes these white slacks (also available in other colors). They come in a variety of sizes and rises and with different belt options to suit each avatar’s preference and stature. These pants are paired with a cool and breezy shirt from Mr. Poet that I tinted to my color of choice.

Redgrave always has a great selection of apparel in many different colors. For a long time, this jacket was only available in black, but the recent release of several new colors makes this the perfect light jacket for spring. Pairing this jacket with other newly released polo, pant, and shoe colors from the old Redgrave El Ganso, makes this an easy one-stop-shop for a fresh spring look.

After styling two looks that could either be dressed up or dressed down, I decided to go with a very casual, outdoorsy look. Spring is a great time to unpack your shorts and polo shirts and just have fun. These shorts from NSD paired with a white polo shirt from Aoharu make a light and airy addition to anyone’s spring wardrobe. The sweater is from Gizza’s new mesh line that has just been released, while the shoes are a favorite from FIR&MNA.

Because mesh has become one of the new crazes in SL, I decided to incorporate it into my wardrobe. I was skeptical at first because it never fit right. But, after search though many stores and demos, I found that Hoorenbeek gives enough options that I was able to find styles that fit my shape without any adjustments. Just be cautious, I wear the small, and that doesn’t happen very often.

Layering is a great way to combine your favorite t-shirts and sweaters while showing off your own personal sense of style.
STYLE TIPS:
Try to choose pieces that are not dependent on each other but rather compliment one another. Start with your lighter articles of clothing first, and then add your heavier pieces on top. Each piece should be able to be removed and still give you a complete look.

Let’s face it, there is probably a manual somewhere out there that describes the preppy look to a T. When someone mentions preppy, I automatically think pleated khakis, polo shirts, and quite possibly a sweater tied around the shoulders or waist country club style. Then again, I am often referred to as ”preppy” and have never worn pleated khaki pants or a sweater tied around anything in my life.
During the 1980′s, men may have no doubt taken every word of that fore mentioned manual to heart; the preppy look was, after all, quite a phenomenon during that period. Today, men have the advantage of marrying classic traditions with modern sensibilities. Although khaki pants, sweaters, and polo shirts are still a staple in most men’s wardrobes, the result is often a new sort of modern preppy style. It’s one that remains true to preppy’s inherent roots while embracing the present day’s penchant for flattering cuts and even more flattering colors.
STYLE TIPS:
Here are a few must-have items to get you started on the path to successful preppy dressing:
■Sweaters: Cardigans, vests, crewneck and v-neck sweaters that fit well are necessities. These sweaters should fit well; don’t take the baggy route.
■Button down shirts: An oxford button down shirt is appropriate for any occasion. Think color and a great fit.
■Jeans: Yes, jeans have a place in the modern preppy male’s wardrobe. A nice, well fitting pair of jeans is the perfect choice for occasions when khakis somehow aren’t casual enough. Look for jeans that have extra prims to ensure the appropriate length and fit.
By alternating and layering these pieces and adding other appropriate pieces, such as a blazer or slacks, you can use the same look for many different occassions: work, dinner, a night out with friends, etc.

There is a good chance that you’ve been hearing the same old fashion adages since you were little. Your mother probably cringed at the thought of white after Labor Day, and you never dared to wear a leather jacket, belt or shoes that didn’t match. What would you think if I told you many of those rules are outdated and irrelevant in the fashion world of 2011? The truth is, many of them are. One of my favorite old fashion adages is: black and brown don’t match. On the contrary: black and brown go, and look quite sophisticated, too. It’s not whether it “matches” but rather, “does it go”?
STYLE TIPS:
Pair a rich brown leather jacket with a black sweater and brightly colored shirt, or wear black boots and pair of worn-in jeans. Add your favorite accessories to finish off your look. One combo to avoid: brown shoes with black pants.
